Fixing a TV by Replacing Blown Capacitors
My friend's TV would begin to turn on only for the screen to turn off almost instantly. After opening it up we determined that a pair of capacitors on the power supply board for the TV were blown. Both were swollen and had some black charring at the top.
We identified the capacitors as being rated 10V 3300µF. It seems to be a common capacitor for TV power supplies and easily found a replacement pair of Rubycon capacitors. We de-soldered the blown capacitors and soldered on the replacements.
After replacing the capacitors we put the TV back together and turned it on to find it was working properly again.
